落合宿本陣

Ochiai-juku Honjin inn

ぎふ17宿の中で、唯一当時の姿を留めている大変貴重な建物です。この建物は文化15年(1818)に建てられました。明治14年に今までの板葺き平屋の建物を、土蔵造二階建てに立て直していますが、玄関から上段の間までの内部、加賀藩の前田家から火事見舞に拝領したという正門は昔のままです。

Honjin, literally translated to mean headquarters, was used as an official inn for people of high position in post town in the Edo period. Ochiai-juku honjin is the only honjin left in 17 post towns in Gifu prefecture which retains features of the Edo period architecture. The present main building on the premises was founded in 1818. Omote-mon, the front gate, is said to be the gift that the MAEDA family of Kaga domain sent to express sympathy after a fire of the Edo period.
